"Okay," she agreed, approaching him so they could walk how they normally did- arm in arm. She hoped they didn't have to take many guards- she would have liked to be alone with her husband, just so they could talk alone. She was beginning to warm up to him and trusted him exponentially more than she had.

Nazeal had a long talk with his father. The stubborn man insisted on them taking two guards, but it was better than having more. After that, they went to the stables and had the grooms saddle their horses. Nazeal's gelding was a blue roan named Stormwind, and he chose a chestnut mare for Adelaide. "She's new," he told her. "You can name her whatever you like."

Adelaide smiled, accepting the reins from him. She stroked the mare's nose and thought for a moment. The horse had a star on her nose. "I think Stella is a suitable name," she replied. She had her own horse from back at her old home named Onyx, but he wasn't appropriate for this sort of ride. She had a servant help her mount into the sidesaddle and held the reins securely.

Nazeal gave a smile and an approving nod, then pulled himself into Stormwind's saddle. Behind them, the two guards mounted their horses as well. "Shall we?" he asked, adjusting his hands on the reins.

"Do let's," she agreed, starting forward out of the stables. "So, are we going to go through the streets?"

"There's a less frequented road that leads out of the city, through the Tin Gate," Nazeal said. "We'll take that, and then follow the path to the forest."

Adelaide nodded, falling silent for a few minutes. Then, "Thank you, Nazeal, for inviting me."

"You're my wife," Nazeal said. "Besides, who else would I go with?" He jerked his chin back at the guards. "Them?"

Adelaide smiled. "I suppose not," she said with a chuckle. She fell silent again, the awkward silence yawning in front of her like the gaping mouth of an animal.

Nazeal couldn't think of anything else to say, so they rode in silence until they reached the gate. He spoke briefly to the guards on duty, and then they passed through without any trouble.

Adelaide wanted desperately to give her horse it's head to run, but she knew that wasn't proper, and that she couldn't very well gallop with a sidesaddle.

Nazeal took a deep breath once they were outside the city. The air still smelled of ash, but he felt he could breathe easier when not surrounded by people and buildings. "Have you been this way before?" he asked.

Adelaide shook her head. "No. At least not on horseback. I once went through this area with my parents," se replied, "but we were in a carriage."

"There's not really much to see," Nazeal said. "But I suppose it's better than some other places. The ash actually falls less thickly... or maybe that's just my imagination."

Adelaide looked around. "More space for it to fill up," she suggested with a small grin.
