Duncan followed her line of sight and raised an eyebrow. "Not a fan?" He asked, looking back at Fae as he closed the now empty box in his hands. He could use it to store other jewelry if he was asked to make more

Fae gave him a wry smile. "I'm not a fan of anyone," she told him.

Duncan looked skeptical, and he didn't hide the disbelief in his face from her. She liked no one? At all? Duncan figured she probably had a lot of suitors from the way she talked about her father turning them down. "No one at all?" He questioned. Surely there had to have been someone

"Not anyone," Fae said quietly. "He's gone."

Duncan blinked. Those two words said much, and her tone obviously indicated it was a tender subject. Duncan grunted and looked away. "Sorry." He said simply. Then he sighed. Changing the subject might be a good idea. "How persistent are these suitors? This one kept bugging me." He asked instead. This noble had a messenger practically camping outside his forge just to get jewelry made.

"It depends. Some of them can be very persistent," Fae replied. "Just as certain people are, and some aren't." She really wished all the ones that were would decide to focus their attentions elsewhere.

Duncan grunted. "Sounds annoying. Glad I ain't a noble." He said honestly, scratching the back of his neck. It just seemed way too complicated. Duncan perfered the simplicity of his forge to the intricacies of politics any day

Fae smiled faintly. She wondered how many skaa felt the way he did, and how many would give their right arm to be someone else. And then there was her, who perhaps would give her right arm to be skaa, so her love would still be alive and she could be with him. "You don't know the half of it," she said.

Duncan studied her on e again before smirking slightly, chuckling. "I think I'm fine with that." He decided, shaking his head. "Hardships everywhere. I'm content with my own." He mused, scratching his bearded chin.

"Wise words," Fae said. And rare ones. In a rare flash of emotion, she realized she might like this skaa. She'd been void of feeling anything for anyone for so long that she thought she might have forgotten how.

Duncan chuckled his deep throaty chuckle, glancing at her with a smile that was slightly bigger than his previous one. He raised an eyebrow. "Haven't been complimented for that before." He said. It was true, since he normally didn't talk much. Normally. For some reason he felt like talking around this noble. He couldn't explain to himself why

"Oh?" Fae said. She smiled faintly, almost... teasingly. "And what are you usually complimented for?" If only she could be complimented for being wise, or even smart. All she ever heard was people fawning over her beauty and etiquette. Once, she'd been called smart and witty and much more, but not anymore.

Duncan chuckled again, and his smile grew just a little larger. "Usually for my work, or my strength, or size." He answered. "And you?" He asked. "Let me guess. 'Beauty?'" He mused. Usually that's all he ever heard when nobles came to get jewelry from him.

"Mostly," Faeldrin said. "It gets taxing, constantly hearing the same things over and over again. As if no one cares about anything but my beauty. Not even my parents do."

Duncan nodded as he listened. There was something about the way she said it. She seemed so... Sad. Duncan never thought he'd have sympathy for a noble, but here he was. "You're interesting. Seem smart too, like my sisters." He said with a shrug. "Only you know you, really." He added, looking back over the great hall as he scratched his chin
