When the sun was setting and Ryder was finally pulled up--without a crystal--they all filed back to the skaa housing. That night, Ryder would plan a way out of the Pits. After that, he didn't know where he'd go, but he had to do something. He couldn't stay here any longer.

The man who was his partner looked at Ryder. "What did you do to irk that guard?"

Ryder grumbled under his breath. "Nothing," he said. "He's just a major jerk. By the Lord Ruler, I'd like to tie him up out there and let the mists take him."

The other skaa grinned. "Yeah. I wonder how he'd like that, huh? Eaten up by the mists. That's a fine picture in my mind."

Or better yet, perhaps they would leave him behind. Sometimes the mists came and killed, but the bodies were left, in a way that left no uncertainty that they had died painfully. He still remembered a time when the mists weren't so cruel. They'd always been feared by the skaa, but once the mists and the night had been his sanctuary, his cover. As a thief, he'd learned to accept them. Now, even he was frightened of them.
Stepping past the other man and heading to his bed, Ryder effectively ended the conversation. He didn't want to talk anymore.

The skaa pursed his lips but shrugged and headed the opposite direction to his bed.
(So, want to timeskip to when he tries to escape or not?)

(Hmm... I'm still trying to determine if he'll actually escape, and if not what will happen to him)

(Okay. So... what now?)

(Do you have any ideas? I mean, something has to change if he's going to stay. A secondary character, or perhaps something that changes between him and Theon. Something that forces them to become grudging allies maybe?)

(Maybe somehow they get stuck outside when the mists are out? That would force them to work together. Then they could find that they were lost in the wilderness together? All we would need is a reason for them to be outside during the mists in order for them to get lost.)

(Oh, I like that. Yeah. Maybe Ryder could snap and attack him just as night falls. The mists start to come in, and no one's brave enough to adventure out to fetch them.)

(Good idea, and then, as they fight, they move further away into the wilderness, until the housing areas and Pits are no longer visible. Then they could argue about which way to go- Theon wants to go back, while Ryder wants to get away.)

(Yeah. And they want to kill each other, but even they realize they'll have a better chance to surviving the night with the other's aid.)

(Right. So, you start? Or me? Either is fine, but I'm going to sleep in a second.)

Ryder looked up at the sky, his stomach clenching. Was it just him, or was night falling faster than usual. At an order from one of the guards, the skaa were pulled from the pits. In just the time it took to pull his partner up, the sky had darkened.
