Theon and Ryder finally reached Luthadel after a several hour walk. Both were parched, tired and dirty, but you could tell which was the noble still. Theon was still watching Ryder as closely as he could so as to make sure he couldn't escape before he could get him back to the Pits.

Ryder stayed slightly behind Theon as they approached one of the gates into the city. As soon as they reached it, Theon would have the perfect opportunity to turn him over to the guards. He had to figure something else out. Perhaps... he might even be able to escape after they took him into custody, especially if he could somehow slip a message to an ally before they got him to the palace or a ministry building. At this point, it seemed like his only chance, so he stayed with Theon for the time being.

Once they reached the gates, Theon hailed one of the guards. "I have a prisoner here. He needs tone taken back to the Pits, or wherever he is needed. Preferrably hard labor."

Ryder sent Theon a glare. Then, before the guard could grab him, he darted past and dashed straight at the gates. He fully expected to be captured, and indeed he was. None of them would have been convinced if he hadn't tried to make a dash for it. One of the gate guards wrenched his arms behind his back and bound them with rope. Despite the rough treatment, the man's voice was almost pitying when he said, "What were you planning to do? Might as well come quietly."

Theon made a grab for him but missed, growling. When he was apprehended again, he said, "Yes, the Pits again, I think. And this time you'll not escape again."

Ryder glared at him, putting on a good show of struggling even though this was what he wanted. "You're free to go now, Lord Theon," one of the guards said. "We'll take care of the prisoner."

Theon brushed himself off and nodded, striking off confidently back to his own home.

(Do you want to RP a friend of Ryder's that helps him get away? I was thinking there could be some underground message system that he accesses as they walk through the city, getting word to his friend)

(Yeah, sure. How should I start?)

(I'll set it up, and then his friend can show up to rescue him)
Ryder's hopes were beginning to fade the closer they got to the Garrison Headquarters. He hadn't seen any of the familiar underground lookouts, and they were just eight blocks away. He was running out of time. Then he spotted him, a nondescript old man sitting near an alley entrance. He looked much like any other beggar on the street, but for a darker smear off ash on his right cheek, distinct for someone who knew what to look for. When the man's eyes fell on him, Ryder flashed a series of numbers on his fingers. 2-3-4-1. It was a code for the man to contact a certain skaa thief, someone who could get Ryder out of his current predicament... but likely with a price.
He turned his eyes forward again and held his breath, but out of the corner of his vision he saw the man rise slowly and disappear into the alley.

Within a few minutes, another skaa appeared, walking slightly behind Ryder and the guards. He was tall, very tall, with shaggy black hair and hazel eyes. As they walked, the skaa waited for his chance, when no other guards were around. There! He quickly sprang into action. Two blades slid from their sheaths and quickly flashed, wounding both of the guards in the back. He leaped backwards with impressive acrobatics when one guard tried to injure him. That guard was soon dead on the street, blood dribbling from his throat. The next guard was soon also dead, and Ryder's bounds cut off.

Ryder flexed his wrists and turned to grin at his rescuer. "Nice to see you again," he said. He glanced down at the guards and a look of distaste crossed his face. "Did you have to kill them?"

The man gave a cocky grin. "No. But I wanted to," he said, shrugging.

Ryder sighed and glanced around. A few of the skaa around them were staring, open mouthed, but most of them just plodding along without taking notice. They'd probably seen worse than a few Garrison soldiers being killed. Most of them probably didn't care that the deaths had taken place. After all, most viewed the soldiers as traitor, turning their back on their people to serve the Lord Ruler.
"Let's get out of here," he said. "Before more show up. I'm not getting captured again."

"I don't blame you," the man replied, walking on. "You need to lay low a bit. You can stay with me if you want."
