Alicia listened at the door. "There is someone in there," The Shadow translated.

[Cʀʏsᴛᴀʟ]

Ryder held up his index finger and raised an eyebrow. One?

Alicia shook her head and held up two fingers.

Ryder grimaced. Theon and... who? Who would be visiting the man at this hour? He gestured toward the door and gave the Shadow a questioning look. In?

The Shadow narrowed his eyes, then nodded. "You first."

[Cʀʏsᴛᴀʟ]

Ryder checked his metal reserves--he'd swallowed some zinc before they'd left--and then threw open the door, bursting inside.

The other two followed him inside, prepared to fight- but it wasn't Theon. It was an older man and woman, sleeping. They awoke when they came through the door, and the woman almost screamed. But where was Theon?

Ryder stumbled to a halt, confusion taking over his face. He looked between the two people, both of which he'd never seen before.

"Who are you? What do you want?" the old man asked tremulously.

[Cʀʏsᴛᴀʟ]

Ryder recovered a second later. "We're looking for Theon Venture," he said. He didn't have to work at making his voice cold. "Where is he?"

"Theon Venture?" the old man stuttered. "He doesn't live here currently. We're renting the place from him. He's off working. We don't know where."

[Cʀʏsᴛᴀʟ]

Ryder groaned. "Great," he said, his voice frustrated. He looked like he was ready to kill the poor couple just for annoying him. "He's in the city, though. Where would he be?" He glanced at Alicia and the Shadow.

"Are we sure he isn't... you know, the Pits? He might have headed back after getting to Luthadel," the Shadow said quietly.

[Cʀʏsᴛᴀʟ]

Ryder scowled. "I guess it's possible," he said. His sharp eyes went to the two 'innocent' nobles. "Have you heard anything at all about him?"

"No, he just handed us the keys and left. We have no idea where he is!"
