"We'll have to venture farther out," Ryder said. "Perhaps find a cave nearby." He didn't know the area around the pits--none of the prisoners knew exactly where they were--but they were in the mountains, which meant there would be caves somewhere.

"Right," he agreed grudgingly, heading off in the opposute direction they'd come from.

Ryder walked behind him, close enough that he wouldn't lose him in the swirling mists, but still keeping his distance. He won't put it past him to turn around and stab him.

Theon knew it would be unwise to dispatch a worthy opponent when he needed to survive, so he decided to bide his time.

Ryder had worried the mists would just get thicker and thicker, but they seemed to ebb away and then surge back in as they walked. In fact, they swirled around the two of them in an almost playful manner, but never quite touching their skin.

Theon was nervous surrounded by the mists but they soon found a cave. Theon entered and checked out he interior, deemed it was safe, and sat down on the cold ground.

Ryder backed far enough away from the mouth of the cave that he felt safe from the mists. They wouldn't enter, for whatever reason. Then he leaned against the wall, too restless to sit down. "So we just wait it out?" he asked skeptically. It couldn't be that easy.

(Ohh, they should stumble into the Kandra homeland somehow)

Theon shrugged. "I've never been in the mists before, myself, so I don't really have any idea."

Ryder took a step back when the trendles of mist reached inexplicably into the cave. "We should go," he said. "We'll be safer deeper inside."

Theon glared at him but he feared the mists more than he hated Ryder. He moved backwards, staring at the mist.

Ryder made his way deeper into the cave, shuddering as the light dissipated and eventually disappeared. He didn't go very far, but the light vanished fast. He had to run his hand along the wall to keep moving.
