Ryder glanced back and swore under his breath. The mists still gave off their pale glow, but the way ahead of them was pitch black. "What if it doesn't stop?" he said, his word echoing off the walls. "What if we hit a dead end?"

Ryder realized there was no point in worrying over it. What would happen would happen; there was nothing they could do differently but run. And run they did, until the black cave opened up into a cavern. A strange, glowing fungus cast a pale light over the room, enough that Ryder could make out shapes after his eyes adjusted.

Theon looked at the fungus but don't stop to study it much. Instead, he continued on until the light from the fungus wasn't the only light. It seemed to be getting lighter in here.

Ryder swallowed nervously. He wasn't frightened by much, but this place was creepy. "Where are we?" he said quietly. His words still echoed around the massive cavern.

"I think perhaps you should stop right where you are," said a calm voice. Ryder whirled around to face the speaker, his eyes going wide and his mouth dropping open when he caught sight of him.
Standing behind them was a man... of sorts. The thing was unlike anything Ryder had ever seen. He was naked, though he lacked any genitals, and his skin was pale and translucent, revealing the reddish skeleton underneath. The being held a spear, and he looked very unhappy to see the two men.

Theon whipped around, his eyes widening in fear at the creature in front of him. He had only heard of them once or twice, but it was enough to recognize what it was. "Kandra," he whispered.

Ryder looked over at Theon with wild eyes. Unlike the nobleman, he'd never heard of this 'kandra' creature. He knew there were strange and frightening creatures that inhabited the world, like mistwraiths and koloss, but he'd never seen either.
KarDek's lips pulled into a frightening smile. "So, nobleman, you know us," he said. "That will make this easier."

Theon decided it was pointless to try to fight this creature. Instead, he dropped his head and waited to be led away.

Ryder gritted his teeth when he saw Theon submitting. If the guard decided not to fight this creature, he doubted he would have much chance against it, especially alone. His shoulders slumped and he mirrored Theon's position.
The kandra gave a satisfied nod and strode over behind them. With a not-so-gentle poke from his speed, he urged them forward.

Theon clenched his fists, knowing it was pointless to fight. He started forward, trying to curb his usual prideful stance.
