Nikoda considered her standard answer, which was 'none of your business,' but they both knew she was no longer loyal to the Garrison. She'd let a criminal live. "Actually, yes. Lord Elariel sent a message to Lord Venture. The Garrison doesn't typically carry letters between lords, so it caught my attention. It had to have been something important."

Nikoda raised her eyebrows at him. "The letter has to be in Keep Venture right now, if it hasn't been burned already. Are you mad as well as a criminal?"

They agreed to meet each other that night in this bar, so that's where Noah turned up, carrying two parcels of mysterious contents.

Nikoda arrived just a little bit late, having been ordered to stay late and transcribe a missive. She wore the same long cloak as before, pulled up to cover her face and hair. She spotted Noah easily, picking out his figure and height.
