Ava grit her teeth. She hasn't realized that he would have realized what she was doing... her secret was out! "Don't you dare tell anyone! I can't have this secret out!"

Kol raised his eyebrows at her. "That you're a half-noble skaa with allomatic powers?" he said. "Yeah, don't worry. I won't give your secret away."

Ava nodded stiffly. "Now, let me make sure you didn't rip those stitches." She lifted his bandage and, thankfully, the stitches were okay.

Kol grunted. "You did a good job," he said. "I've had so-called 'healers' stitch me up before, and they didn't have quite your finesse."

Ava gave a small smile. "Thanks," she said. She tapped her door for a moment before rushing off into a closet. She came back with another salve and slathered this on top of the original solution. "This'll keep out infection. Soothing, isn't it? It's of my own invention," she said somewhat proudly.

"Impressive," Kol said, but mostly just so she would stop talking and he could get some sleep. "Look, I'm really exhausted. Long night and all. Perhaps it's time for sleep." His eyes ached with need for sleep, and his body demanded for him to let it recover.

Ava nodded. "Forgive me. Of course you are tired. Don't you dare leave in the night," she said, leaving the room and heading upstairs where she slept. But she would be keeping an eye on him with her allomancy.

Kol snorted after she left. "Don't you dare leave in the middle of the night," he said in a quiet, high-toned voice. "Like she can tell me what to do."

Ava climbed the steep stairs laboriously, her breath quickening somewhat. She opened the door and closed it behind herself, changing into her nightclothes.

(Either he should get a fever or something or the people who were after him should come and attack the shop.)

When Kol woke up a few hours into the morning, he decided it was a good a time as any to leave. The sooner he got out, the less chance she'd be in danger. When he sat up, though, a wave of dizziness washed over him and he collapsed against the wall. He groaned, and a moment later realized his face--his entire body, for that matter--was covered in sweat. "Damn it," he breathed. "This isn't happening."

Ava, a naturally light sleeper, heard the activity below and awoke. She blinked and then dressed herself in simple clothes as swiftly as possible. She then rushed downstairs and cursed when she saw him. "Infected," she said immediately. She could recognize it anywhere. "Okay, back in bed you get," she said, helping him back. "I will need to do some work in it."

Kol shook his head, even though he was well aware that he needed treatment. "Not now. We need to get out of here. There's someone out in the street, heading this way." Thanks to a little tin, he could heart the hurried footsteps. It could be some people passing by, but at this time he doubted that was the case. Whoever they were, it was time to expect company.

"Nonsense. You need to be treated immediately," she said, though she knew the person was coming swiftly and probably had bad intentions. "Lay down!"
