Ava looked at him as soon as she was sure where they were going, her eyes wide. "Are you serious? We can't go there!"

"Of course we can," Kol called to her dismissively. The mists swirled around him as he shot into the air again, pushing a hinge on a roof's trap door. "We'll be fine."

Ava followed hesitantly. "I don't think we will be!" she muttered quietly, her eyes flicking back and forth nervously. "As soon as we are safe I need to take out that infection!"

"Of course," Kol said. In the adrenaline of flying over the city, he'd actually forgotten about the wound in his side. As soon as he touched down on a rooftop, though, a wave of dizziness washed over him. He knelt down and picked up his coin, taking a moment to wait for his head to stop spinning. "We go on foot from here," he said after a deep breath.

Ava frowned at him. "Okay. Nice and easy now," she murmured.

Kol wiped some sweat off his forehead and straightened up. "We're going toward Keep Tekiel," he said. "Come on." On unsteady feet, he walked toward the ladder that led back to the street.

Ava stopped him. "Okay. But let me go first so I can break your fall if you slip or let go of your grip," she said.

"That's probably not a bright idea," Kol said. "If I fall, we'll just both die."

"Then don't fall," she replied stubbornly, climbing down quickly. "I'm Mistborn, remember? I can burn pewter to catch you."

Kol sighed dramatically and gestured her forward. "After you, m'lady."

She reached the bottom, burning a little tin to see if she sensed anything. When she didn't, she motioned for him to climb down and, just to be safe, she burned a small amount of pewter.

Kol followed her, moving pretty smoothly considering. His foot slipped once, but he managed to hang on and continue without any more problems. He let out a relieved breath when his feet touched the street. "Alright, this way," he whispered. He moved down the street, keeping to the shadows and checking corners to make sure no one was there. Just because it was night didn't mean no one would be out. The city still had to be guarded at night, as much as the poor soldiers hated it.

Ava followed, feeling more and more dread as they approached the large keep. She glanced at Kol, wondering why he was so comfortable with this idea. Then it hit her. She hadn't given herself the chance to think about this before. "You're a noble, aren't you?" she whispered.

"Not exactly," Kol said. He didn't want her to suddenly turn on him because of his blood. In many ways, they were the same. "Come on, we're almost there."

She eyed him warily but finally nodded. "Okay." They continued.
