"Thank you." Leonie said to the servant as Madame Raine clapped her hands, pleased.
"Ah! I don't know about my little Leonie, but I would love to have some!" She said with a chuckle, taking a seat and picking up a cup a servant filled. Leonie laughed and walked over, taking a seat next to her.
"I'll certainly have some. Thank you Adelaide." She said with an easy smile, picking up a pastry first and eating it neatly.
"This is lovely." The elder Tekiel complimented, taking another sip from her cup. "You certainly know how to receive guests, dear. And I have to say, this keep is enormous! I was just talking to Leonie about it. I don't know what we nobles do with all this space." Leonie only chuckled beside her, clearly amused

Adelaide daintily ate a bite of a pastry, smiling. She swallowed before replying. "I thank you," she said. "And I certainly agree! Sometimes I get lost in this huge place." She laughed. "But it is pleasant to have all this room, especially when Nazeal and I begin having children."

Madame Raine looked up at that and smiled warmly. "Oh what a lovely thought! When do you think you'll be ready for children?" Leonie raised an eyebrow.
"Nana!" She scolded. "Let the girl have some privacy." The elder Tekiel huffed and leaned back in her chair.
"Oh fine." She said, looking at Leonie. Then she looked at Adelaide apologetically. "Forgive me dear. When you get old, you tend to lose the filter between your brain and your mouth. That and you tend not to care what people think. That's why I have Leonie with me." She said with a wink. "She's a much better filter than I could've ever hoped for." Leonie rolled her eyes and rubbed her temples, but a smile was tugging at her lips, showing she wasn't mad

Adelaide gave a warm laugh at their banter, holding up a hand. "No, no! It is an honest question, madam. I believe we will be ready soon- of course, there are preparations to be made, but they are being made. Therefore, it shouldn't be too long." Her eyes crinkled at the edges in a smile and she took another sip.

Madame Raine looked at Leonie smugly. Leonie only raised an eyebrow at her with a rueful smile before she looked at Adelaide, taking up her own cup and sipping from it lightly. "Well, I can say without a doubt that we're happy for you, Adelaide." Leonie said with a warm, genuine smile. The elder Tekiel nodded.
"Indeed we are! Tell me dear, would you rather have a girl or a boy as your first child?" She questioned, sipping from her cup

"Thank you," she replied. She watched Leonie as she asked her question, thinking a moment. "Well, that is a difficult question. I think I would be happy with either," she stated diplomatically.

Madame Raine scoffed. "Oh come now dear, you can tell us. Truth be told I always wanted a girl, but I got her," she said, pointing at Leonie with her cup, "father instead. I was disappointed, but I worked with what I got." Leonie nearly coughed out her drink, but she had obviously practiced well, for she recovered in an instant and swallowed.
"Nana!" She laughed, shaking her head. The older woman only shrugged.
"What? It's true. But then again, if I had had a girl, I might not have gotten my little Leonie. So I guess things work out." She said with a shrug and a smile as she sipped from her cup

Adelaide, holding her saucer and cup in one hand, tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Well, I suppose I would like a girl, too. I know what to do with a girl, and I could dress her in fine clothes, do her hair... I do think, however, Nazeal wants a boy to be his heir. Which would also be fine with me."

Both Tekiel woman nodded, while the elder one chuckled. "There, that's a better answer." She said with a warm and satisfied smile.
"You can't expect the girl to pour her heart out for you, Nana." Leonie scolded playfully. Madame Raine only scoffed and picked up a pastry, saintly eating it.
"Maybe not, but that certainly won't stop me from hearing her own opinion." She replied with a chuckle. "I'm old, remember? I know how it is with manners and duty.. But even so, we all have our own opinions. I know I did." Leonie smirked.
"I know you did, Nana. I've heard from father what a terror you could be." Leonie said. The older woman smiled, a twinkle of mischief in her eyes.
"You better believe it."

Adelaide didn't try to break into their conversation and she continued eating until her pastry was gone. She finished off the last of her tea and then sat quietly, watching the two.

The elder Tekiel waved her hand dismissively. "But enough about that now. Aren't you two supposed to be racing?" She asked. Leonie blinked and then laughed, glancing at Adelaide with a smile.
"I'm ready if our host is. Lizette has been a bit feisty ever since we arrived. I think she suspects." Leonie mused with a chuckle

Adelaide stood and brushed a few stray crumbs off her dress. "I am ready. This way to the stables- Lizette will be stabled there, and Onyx too." She led the way towards the stables, and once they got there, she went straight to Onyx's stall. She had under described the horse- it was a massive creature, with hooves that seemed to be as big as dinner plates. She scratched underneath his chin and smiled. "Onyx, meet Madame Raine and Lady Leonie," she said, naming them by age.

Leonie looked at the horse, clearly impressed. "A good day to you sir. Seems we'll be racing today." Madame Raine laughed.
"Well now! That is indeed a fine horse! And big too! Lizette will look quite small in comparison." She chuckled. Leonie only smiled and headed towards where a servant indicated her horse was stabled.
"I'm not much one for size as I am for performance." She said with a shrug, grabbing a saddle a heading into the stall. Eventually she exited with a decent sized horse. It was small in comparison to Onyx, but there was a sort of fire in its eyes that was unmistakable. It had a long black mane, and most of its fur was a lovely mocha color except near its hooves, which were white. "Adelaide, I'd like you to meet Lizette." Leonie said with a smile

Adelaide admired the horse, smiling. "A lovely specimen, to be sure. And Onyx isn't just for looks- he is fast, too. But we shall see who is the faster, won't we?" she asked teasingly, though not unkindly. She had a servant saddle her horse before leading it outside. "This way to the track."

Leonie nodded and led Lizette outside. Madame Raine was chuckling as she followed. "Oh, this is certain to be exciting. And who knows? Perhaps if both horses perform well, they should be coupled together?" She said teasingly. Leonie laughed.
"Nana! Onyx is Adelaide's horse! I can't just go off and take it for breeding." She reprimanded. The elder Tekiel only shrugged, unaffected.
"Yes yes, but it would be a good idea all the same. Don't deny it."
