The market was bustling as always, but that hardly impeded the path of the couple moving along the shops. One was elderly, her hair starting to grey with age, although it still held onto the auburn color it obviously must've had when the woman was younger. She had to have been a noble, from the elegant dress she was wearing. She glided through the crowd easily, walking with a certain grace and authority that was hard to miss.
By her side walked what could've been the elderly woman's younger self brought to the present. Her hair was a dark, lovely red, and the two women shared the same light hazel eyes. This younger woman walked with a similar grace and natural ease that demanded attention and held an authoritative presence. Unlike the other woman, she did not wear a dress. Instead, she wore a dark, dark green outfit with gold trimming that was normally seen on a male. However, it suited her well and fit perfectly.
It was actually Lady Leonie of House Tekiel, and her grandmother. They were well known through Luthadel, especially Leonie. The ambitious and calculating heir to the Tekiel household, many knew that she was the one truly leading her House, even with her parents still being alive. She was a dangerous woman to cross.
And she owed much of her knowledge of politics and business to the very woman she now walked with.
"Honestly, Leonie, you're one of the few things your father has done right!" She was saying, looking over a booth of expensive fabrics. Leonie blinked at her grandmother's bluntness before laughing.
"Nana! You can't mean that! He's your son!" She pointed out with a chuckle. The elderly woman only scoffed and waved her hand dismissively at the young girl.
"And that's precisely why I can say what I please, my little Leonie. I only wish I had had you instead. Our House would've been so much farther along by now." She said, standing after seeing nothing she liked. Leonie offered her an arm, and the older woman looped her own arm though Leonie's offered one as they continued walking.
"As I heard it, my father was very busy, especially after I was born." She returned. The elderly woman laughed and pat Leonie on the arm.
"Oh yes! I remember when you were born your father came to me. He looked so excited, it was like he was a baby himself all over again. And then when you got older, he took me out to watch you practice." Leonie chuckled as they stopped by another shop and her grandmother looked over the items for sale briefly.
"I think I remember that." Nana Tekiel gave a laugh and looked at Leonie.
"How could you not? Your father was practically squirming with joy. He kept poking me, pointing out what you were doing. I eventually had to scold him because he was distracting me so much that I could hardly watch you." The two shared a laugh as they walked on. Eventually the older woman smiled and pat Leonie on the arm again. "I remember when you were born, I told your father; 'Watch this one now, Richard. She has my hair. You know what that means? That means she has my blood in her. If you aren't careful, she'll be in complete control before you even realize.' Now look at you. You're exactly what I predicted. I couldn't be prouder." Leonie blinked in surprise before smiling, filled with pride.
"I... Thank you Nana. I owe you for everything I know." She said truthfully. The older woman only chuckled and pat her on the arm once more before they stopped at a dress shop.
"Ah! Here we are! This looks promising. Be a dear and let this old woman look for some new dresses, will you?" She asked. Nonie laughed and nodded.
"Of course Nana! Go right ahead." The older woman smiled and gave her an affectionate peck on the cheek before heading inside, leaving Leonie to stand outside and peruse the nearby stores as she waited.
